Responsibilities

The shop helper assists service department staff in maintaining a smooth running, efficient service department. Shop helpers are committed to customer satisfaction and provide pick-up and delivery of customer vehicles, prepare vehicles to be placed in the shop and move vehicles out of the shop once service work is complete. Assist technicians when necessary and ensure the service bays are kept in an organized, clean, and efficient condition.  Anchorage shop helpers are responsible for snow removal, operating snowplow trucks and shovels - expect and prepare for seasonal overtime.

  • Run shop equipment as needed including forklifts, floor scrubber and steam cleaner.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and perform all tasks in a safe manner.
  • Use good judgment and accept ownership for accomplishing new and different requests as well as exploring value added opportunities.
  • Prompt daily attendance on scheduled workdays.
  • Must be able to assist in other duties as assigned throughout the facility.
  • Snow removal, operating snowplow trucks and shovels - expect and prepare for seasonal overtime.

Qualifications

Job Requirements, Education and Experience

Education:  High school diploma or equivalent preferred. 

Skills:  Must have basic computer skills. Mechanical aptitude.  Forklift certified (or willing to become certified with training provided). Must be professional and safety minded at all times.  Must be able to effectively work both independently as well as part of a team.

Other: Must have valid driver’s license and be insurable.

 

JOB CONDITIONS:

Physical: (These physical demands are representative of the physical requirements necessary for an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.) Working in, under, and around trucks and trailers.  Standing most of the time on concrete floor. Repetitive movements. Ability to lift, push or pull, objects of various shapes, sizes and weights (up to 75 pounds). 

Environmental: Primarily (approx 70%) outdoors in various weather conditions as well as in the shop environment. High noise level. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles. Coveralls, ear and eye protection provided.

Hours:  Monday - Friday 7AM to 4PM. Candidates should be available for overtime as needed.
